Massage Therapy FAQ
Swedish massage involves using cream to apply pressure to and glide on the skin (effleurage), kneading, wringing, rolling, and lifting the skin and tissues (petrissage), rhythmic tapping/drumming on the body (tapotement), pressure applied against the grain of the superficial and deep tissues (friction), and rhythmic shaking/rocking movements (vibration). Swedish massage pressure can be light to firm, depending on your personal preferences and needs. Swedish massage is perfect for relaxation, increasing circulation, helping with mild muscular tension and stress.
Deep tissue massage can employ similar techniques to Swedish, but can involve firmer pressure, less cream, and slower speed. This type of massage is enjoyed by many people and can be used for those with chronic moderate or high levels of muscular tension or after an accident or injury. Deep tissue massage should be avoided in the immediate days after an accident or injury. My goal is to make sure your deep tissue massage is never painful for you (unless it's the "It hurts so good!" kind of discomfort).
During a barefoot massage I lower the massage table, stand on the table, and use one or both of my feet to apply massage techniques, rather than my hands. This type of massage lends itself VERY well to deep tissue, and is wonderful for the whole body. My feet are cleaned just like my hands. I will not use this modality unless we have discussed it first and you would like to try. But be careful, you might get hooked! Barefoot massage is broad, deep, and very slow. This allows the body to relax comfortably. For this reason, I recommend a minimum of 90 minutes for a massage session that incorporates barefoot massage.
Sessions are held at my new studio in Old Colorado City. The address is 2524 W Colorado Avenue, Suite 205. It is easiest to access the studio from the back of the building (you will have more parking options and fewer stairs to climb).
Paid parking is available behind the building using either the kiosks or ParkMobile (a smartphone app). If you're unsure of how to use ParkMobile, just let me know and I can help you figure it out! Be sure to pay for enough time to allow you to change, chat, and use the restroom before and after your session (I recommend 30 minutes longer than your massage time).
There is also free parking along some of the neighborhood streets if you don't mind a short walk to the studio.
Arrive no more than 10 minutes before your appointment. When you arrive, please call or text me at 719-257-3177 and I'll let you into the building.
